Grade 3 Kaituna River Sledging

Come eye to eye with the Kaituna River and its rapids. 

River sledging is different than anything you’ve done before. Geared up with a life vest, fins and a river sledge you negotiate through the grade 3 rapids of the Kaituna River Rotorua.

River sledging is like white-water rafting, but on steroids! You’re right in the water, navigating rapids, swirling currents, and waves head-on. But don’t worry: It’s designed for beginners as well as adventure junkies. You’ll get full instructions, a wetsuit, helmet, flippers, and your sledge before hitting the water.

In between the thrilling rapids, there are calmer sections where you can float along, soak in the stunning surroundings, and maybe even spot a cheeky tūī or fantail in the trees. It’s the perfect balance of excitement and connection with nature.

With Kaitiaki Adventures, you’ll be guided by an epic team who are all about sharing their knowledge of the river, the whenua (land), and Māori culture, while keeping you safe and smiling.

Soaking Session at Secret Spot Rotorua

After the thrills of sledging in the cold river, there’s no better way to warm up again than a soaking session in a wooden hot tub!

The not-so-secret-anymore Secret Spot Rotorua is located on the outskirts of the city, next to Whakarewarewa Forest’s mountain bike entrance. Tucked away from the outside world, a peaceful, lush-green sanctuary awaits. 12 cedar hot tubs look into the forest and towards the entrance, you find a licenced cafe with complimentary shinny dips (foot baths) with your drink.

If you feel like a glass of bubbly while sitting in your hot tub, just push the button and one of the friendly staff rocks up to take your order. Enjoy your drinks and snacks while chatting with your party (be it a romantic soak for two or a fun one with the girls), all while gazing into the soothing green of the forest.
