Macetown 4WD and gold panning tour 

This is a true offroad experience that calls all adventurers. Macetown is an abandoned gold mining town deep in a mountain valley that only a 4WD vehicle like Nomad Safaris’ Land Rover Defender can reach.

Your first stop en route is picturesque Arrowtown where you visit the historic Chinese Settlers Village and the filming location of Ford of Bruinen in the Lord of the Rings. 

You then follow the Arrow River towards Macetown. 4WD is really needed as you cross the river some 25 times! 

Once you arrive in Macetown you’ll visit the historic settlement (Smith’s Bakehouse, Needham Cottage and Anderson’s Battery) and learn all about the gold that was once found in this area.

You can even try your own hand at gold panning, using the same technique as the prospectors back in the day. Maybe this is your lucky day..?

Your Queenstown accommodation

Blue Peaks Lodge is a centrally located 3* hotel, only steps away from Queenstown’s hustle and bustle. It’s absolutely no-frills and offers great value for money.

Park your car at the motel for free (very rare in Queenstown) and walk the short walking distance to the town centre.

Your room is approximately 20sqm big, with a comfy queen-size bed and ensuite with shower and toilet. Prep your lunch at home thanks to the provided fridge, microwave, toaster and tea/ coffee making facilities.

The hotel also offers One- and Two-Bedroom apartments, which is perfect if you’re travelling with friends. Just let us know if you need a bigger room.
