One night in June 1886, Mount Tarawera erupted with a massive blast and changed Rotorua’s landscape forever. The eruption sunk the Pink and White Terraces, created new lakes as well as the Waimangu Volcanic Valley and left behind 3 domes in the impressive red mountain.
Now dormant, Mount Tarawera can be visited and explored both from land and from the air.
