Waiheke wine tour off the beaten path

Did you know there are over 20 wineries on Waiheke Island? Have you visited the island several times but always ended up in the same few Waiheke wineries for some reason? If you’re keen on exploring new vineyards and tastes, you’ll love the Artisan Afternoon Tour with Ananda Tours. They’ll take you off the beaten (wine) track to the boutique wineries in the Eastern End.

You start off at beautiful Tantalus Estate with a wine or beer tasting (Tantalus has its own micro-brewery) before heading on to Passage Rock for your lunch platter that will tickle your tastebuds. 

Poderi Crisci Vineyard will make you feel like you’ve been dropped in the middle of Italy. The vineyard lies in a natural amphitheatre valley surrounded by Italian olive trees and gardens.

The afternoon is rounded off by a visit of Awaroa, a small vineyard that produces organic wine that isn’t always open to the public.

Waiheke Island scenic flight

See the beauty of Waiheke from high above! Take off for your scenic flights in the midst of the vineyards at the foot of Batch Winery. Soar through the air over the island towards Oneroa Beach and on past Rotoroa Island and Auckland’s youngest volcano, Rangitoto. This 30-minutes flight also offers views of Ponui, Pakatoa and Rotoroa Island which is just one of the country’s many beautiful nature reserves. Before landing back at the island’s tiny airport, you’ll fly past the mussel and oyster farms.
