Meet Mary and Tim: your friendly, knowledgeable hosts who are passionate about connecting with people from all around the world. They’ve turned their B&B into one of the best accommodation choices in Tūrangi.
As you arrive you’re welcomed with a delightful afternoon tea. As the sun sets, join Mary and Tim for pre-dinner canapes and a wine or beer, accompanied by stories of the area and detailed planning of your itinerary.
Wake up to a gourmet breakfast that will tantalise your taste buds and fuel your day of adventure. Early takeaway breakfasts are also an option for active early birds.
The Olive Rabbit Bed & Breakfast is situated in Tūrangi, a quiet, riverside location in the historic fishing village of Taupahi. Catering exclusively to adults, you can be assured of peace and tranquillity with the local birdlife.
Their rooms are charming and comfortable, and for moments of serenity, soak and unwind amidst the sounds of nature in their outdoor spa, surrounded by native bush. The Olive Rabbit truly is your perfect paradise.
Day 1: Full-day guided ebike tour and guided whitewater rafting
Experience the best of both worlds with this Tongariro Forest bike-and-raft combo tour!
Go on a picturesque ebike ride through the native forest of Tree Trunk Gorge, crossing the Pillars of Hercules and the Poutu Intake before arriving at the starting point for your rafting adventure.
Experience nature like never before as you navigate 60 rapids in a 13km stretch – more rapids in one stretch than anywhere in New Zealand!
Perfect for first-time rafters, Tongariro River’s grade 3 rapids offer thrills and spills galore without any extreme drops requiring experience.
Paddle through the heart of the Great Lake Taupō region and witness some of the most stunning scenery you can only access by water. Towering pine forests, native bush and volcanic cliffs surround you on your epic journey on the Tongariro River.
Keep an eye out for Whio, our endangered blue ducks, nesting along the river banks. Don’t forget to look below you, giant New Zealand trout swimming by.
Day 2: 2h ebike rental to explore the Tongariro River Trail
The Tongariro River Trail starts almost at the doorstep of The Olive Rabbit and has multiple access points.
Pick up your ebike and follow the riverbanks through urban and natural settings for an easy, mostly flat ride with stunning views. The loop track is 15 km long with few hills and great singletracks, which makes it a perfect ride for all levels of riders. The full loop takes about 1.5 hours but don’t forget to stop for a picnic along the way and to watch the fly fishers stand in the river and try catching a trout.
