Te Whare Ruruhau, or Wild Perfection, is a luxury cabin out in the wop wops on Owhaoko ancestral lands, between Kaimanawa and Kaweka forest park. It’s only accessible by helicopter from Poronui or Taupō and once your pilot has dropped you off, it’s just you, your special someone and nature.

Star-gazing from the comfort of your bed!

No roads, phone reception or noise other than the sound of nature allows for total immersion in your surroundings (there is a satellite phone for emergencies). Become one with nature in the most luxurious way possible. Spend your days hiking the countless trails starting directly from your lodge or reading a book on the deck or in one of the many reading nooks.

Unwind in the outdoor bathtub with a glass of wine while overlooking the valley below you or light a cosy fire in the living room’s fireplace. 

Then retreat to the Nga Whetu Piata (Shining Star) bedroom for an early night and watch the starry sky directly from your bed through the glass ceiling and walls! 

While you will be the only people in the lodge during your stay, you won’t have to worry too much about cooking. Your package includes a daily breakfast hamper to start your day in the most relaxing way possible. At night, dine on restaurant-quality dinners which are already prepared by the amazing chefs at Wild Roots Culinary Concepts. All you have to do is heat them up according to the instructions. 

Te Whare Ruruhau has everything you could want of a luxury cabin in the wilderness: running hot water and solar power, flush toilets and fluffy towels. The lodge sleeps up to four people in two bedrooms but is best enjoyed by two people.
