The Matū PurePod in Waitomo is tucked away in the rolling hills of the Waikato, just a short drive from the famous Waitomo Caves. Getting to your PurePod is part of the adventure. After parking the car, you’ll take a 600-metre stroll through farmland and open fields before arriving at your glass-walled hideaway.

Matū PurePod is designed to immerse you completely in nature. With glass walls and ceiling, you’ll wake up surrounded by panoramic views of farmland and native bush. At night, the stargazing is unforgettable! Hardly any light pollution, just a clear view of the Milky Way from the comfort of your king-size bed.

Inside, you’ll find everything you need for a comfortable stay. There’s a cosy bed, a modern bathroom with a hot shower, and a fully equipped kitchen with a gas hob and BBQ. Your package includes a food hamper for breakfast and dinner, so you don’t have to worry about what to cook. All you have to do is bring your own drinks.

Black Water Tubing with The Waitomo Experience – float under glowworms

Just a short drive from your Purepods is Waitomo. The Waitomo Experience immerses you fully: Instead of simply walking through the caves, you’ll be black water tubing – floating along an underground river on a rubber tube while thousands of glowworms sparkle above you like a starry galaxy in space.

Wade through streams, float through caverns, and occasionally squeeze through passageways. Look up to see entire ceilings glittering with glowworms, their soft blue light reflecting in the water as you drift quietly below. It’s equal parts adventure and magic.

What makes this adventure even better is the intimate size of the tours. With a maximum of six people per group, you’ll never feel like just another number in a crowd.
