Sunset Kayaking tour to Rangitoto Island

Kayaking to Rangitoto Island with Auckland Sea Kayaks is one of the most memorable ways to experience Auckland’s harbour! Instead of taking the ferry, you paddle your way there, which makes the whole journey feel so much more adventurous. The tour begins with a relaxed briefing on the beach before you set off in stable double kayaks, gliding across the Waitematā Harbour as the late‑afternoon light settles over the city.

Once you’ve reached Rangitoto, you can strech your legs, explore the shoreline, or simply enjoy the changing colours as the sun sets. The island feels wonderfully remote at this hour, with long shadows stretching across the lava fields and the city skyline glowing in the distance. Meanwhile, your guide fires up a classic Kiwi BBQ.

Dinner is relaxed and social, with great food and plenty of time to soak up the atmosphere before the highlight of the evening: the paddle back under a darkening sky. Watching the city lights shimmer across the harbour as you kayak toward them is a moment that stays with you forever.

You need to have moderate fitness to join the tour. Beginner kayakers are welcome.
